One killed in New Madrid County crash

NEW MADRID, Mo. -- A Hayti man was killed in a head-on collision.

Leo W. House III, 53, was pronounced dead at the scene of an accident on Highway 61, two miles north of New Madrid by New Madrid County Coroner George Delisle at 9:55 p.m. Thursday. House's death is the 33rd fatality recorded in the Troop E area this year.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol's report, the accident occurred at 9:07 p.m. Thursday when a northbound truck driven by Steven J. Cameron, 44, of Marston crossed the centerline. Cameron's vehicle struck a southbound vehicle driven by House head-on, causing it to overturn.

Cameron was seriously injured in the accident and taken by air ambulance to Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau for treatment.

Two passenger's in House's vehicle were injured. Cynthia I. House, 54, of Hayti was seriously injured and taken by air ambulance to Saint Francis Medical Center. Leo W. House IV, 29, of Hayti had moderate injuries and was taken by ambulance to Saint Francis Medical Center.

A two-vehicle accident resulted in minor injuries to an infant.

The Missouri Highway Patrol reported that at 4:15 p.m. Thursday on Route H, two miles south of Blodgett, a westbound vehicle driven by Betty S. Crider, 79, of Sikeston pulled into the path of a northbound vehicle driven by Stephan A. Floan, 23, of Marston.

The child, John A. Deason of Marston, who was a passenger in Floan's vehicle, was taken by ambulance to Missouri Delta Medical Center for treatment.

A multi-vehicle pileup was investigated by the Missouri Highway Patrol at 10:08 a.m. Thursday.
