Pavement improvements to begin Monday

Friday, August 12, 2016

SIKESTON - Pavement improvements at the intersection of Highway 61 and Routes ZZ and HH with Main Street will begin Monday weather permitting.

Work will be staged to allow traffic access to the intersection, which is located just south of the Southeast Missouri State University-Sikeston campus.

Lane reductions will be in place, according to the Missouri Department of Transportation.

MoDOT officials are encouraging motorists to seek alternate routes or allow extra time for delays.

"In addition, longer delays will occur when traveling through the intersection at peak traffic times," MoDot stated in a news release. "The current traffic signals will be temporarily disabled, and the intersection will be treated as a four-way stop during construction."

The work zone will be marked with signs. Motorists are urged to use extreme caution while traveling near the area.

Completion is anticipated in late September, weather permitting.
