Sikeston volleyball advances to Silver Bracket quarterfinals during Dig For Life Classic

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. -- The Sikeston volleyball team advanced to the silver bracket of the Dig for Life Classic on the campus of Southeast Missouri State University and Notre Dame High School Friday and Saturday in Cape Girardeau, Mo.

The Bulldogs finished second in their pool with two wins out of three games beating Jackson's JV 25-17, 25-14 and Viburnum 25-11, 25-17. Their lone pool loss came against Bismarck 25-11, 25-17.

Sikeston moved into the Silver Bracket beating South Iron 25-18, 25-16 in the first round of 16. They lost to Calvary Lutheran 25-20, 25-10 to end their run.

New Madrid County Central was also in the Silver Bracket falling to Gideon in the first round 25-22, 25-18. They made it through to the consolation championship after beating Meadow Heights and Cape Central. The Eagles then lost the final to Twin Rivers 25-20, 25-8.

Oran made it through to the Silver Bracket's second round after beating Twin Rivers in the first round in three sets. The Eagles lost in the quarterfinals to Viburnum in another three-set match.

Portageville also lost in the championship quarterfinals to Leopold 25-16, 25-21.

The top team from each pool advanced to the Gold Bracket, which was won by New Haven over Notre Dame in two sets.
