SIKESTON -- The Sikeston City Council meeting was brief, but it was all action Tuesday.

Due to time requirements, Council unanimously approved of two emergency bills to sell municipal-owned property for commercial purposes involving a two-parcel subdivision, to be known as "Sikeston Point Addition," approximately 1.68 acre tract of land. The land is the old Village Green that is surrounded by Southland Avenue, South Kingshighway and South Main Street.

The first emergency bill sought approval of the subdivision. The second bill sought approval authorizing a real estate contract with Mayson Investments, the parent company of the Sikeston Point development.

"The closing is set for next Friday to allow the lots to be in place for anticipated purchase," said Chuck Leible, the city attorney. The total purchasing price is $1.4 million.

At the meeting, Council also conducted the second reading to authorize the execution of a contract with Geograph Industries for the fabrication and installation of the gateway monument and wayfinding signage. The stated amount of the contract is $267,100, but the actual amounts will be calculated in accordance with the Mileston Project-Payment Schedule and quantities actually delivered and installed.
