SIKESTON, Mo. -- The Sikeston wrestling team finished second during their 15-team Sikeston Duals tournament at the Sikeston Field House Saturday.
The Bulldogs finished the day 4-1 falling to Hillsboro 47-36 in the championship match. Sikeston defeated Cape Central (59-16), Herrin, Ill., (57-13), McCracken County (57-24) and Seckman (57-13).
Hillsboro finished 5-0 while Poplar Bluff finished third with a 4-1 record and Cape Central went 3-2 for fourth.
Sikeston's Josh Stinnett (182), Jordan Wheatley (195), Landon Griggs (220) and Zach Watkins (285) all finished with a perfect 5-0 record.
Josh Rishton (113), David Valdez (120), Quincy Nelson (138), Justus Faulkner (145) and Luke Blanton (160) each ended the day with 4-1 records.
"I'm very proud of all of our wrestlers and their efforts," Sikeston coach Chris Lowe said. "We wrestled tough and battled at all times... We still have lots to improve on, but we are making strides in the right direction."
Sikeston's junior varsity team, with six open weight classes, went 1-4 for 12th place. They defeated Paducah Tilghman 40-24 and lost to Calloway Co. (63-12), Poplar Bluff (78-3), Carterville, Ill. (36-24) and Poplar Bluff's JV (36-30).
"Extremely proud of how our JV kids battled against varsity opponents," Lowe said.
Sikeston's next match will be on the road in Carbondale, Ill., where they will face the Terriers and Cape Central in a double dual.
