CHARLESTON, Mo. -- An East Prairie woman faces a felony charge for allegedly stealing from an elderly person in Mississippi County.
Julia Ann Marcum, 48, is charged with felony stealing.
According to Mississippi County Sheriff Cory Hutcheson, the investigation began this week when the Mississippi County Sheriff's Office received a report of money, medications and household appliances missing from an elderly woman's residence.
Hutcheson said he met with the reporting party and obtained surveillance video of Marcum, who had been hired to care for a relative of the complainant, stealing money from a safe inside the elderly victim's residence.
The following morning, Marcum met with deputies at the Mississippi County Sheriff's Office, where an interview was conducted and led to the development of probable cause to believe Marcum had stolen meat, medications, appliances and several thousand dollars from the elderly victim over the preceding year, Hutcheson said.
At press time, Marcum remained in the Mississippi County Detention Center with bond set at $10,000.
