DEXTER, Mo -- A lights-out first quarter by Dexter was more than enough to subdue visiting Sikeston Thursday night.

Sophomore Chaylea Mosby's record-tying performance from 3-point range led the way as the Lady Bearcats cruised to a 72-51 win, their 11th of the season.

"At one point I think we were shooting about 59 percent from three point range," Dexter coach Chad Allen said. "We definitely shot the ball well. I think that's the second time this year (Chaylea's) had seven threes. She's such a great shooter, such a great competitor. She had a great tonight and did an unbelievable job for us."

Highlighted by Mosby's 29-point night, Dexter's start to the game made all the difference as Sikeston played nearly even with them the rest of the way.

Dexter hit on 10 of 17 attempts in the first eight minutes with two threes from Mosby and another by Harley Allen giving Dexter a 9-0 lead out of the gate.

Another three from Mosby capped what became a 19-2 run by Dexter with 1:45 still left in the first quarter.

Fittingly, Mosby hit the final shot of the quarter, her fourth three, to give her 16 points and Dexter a 26-7 advantage heading into the second frame.

"Any given night they can shoot the lights out," Sikeston coach Alisha Wills said of the Lady Bearcats. "That's a given. They have a couple girls who can drain it, especially if you leave them open and sometimes even if you put a hand in their face. They'll shoot and knock it down on you."

By halftime Dexter pushed their lead out to 47-25 but never found their way to a turbo-clocked finish.

Sikeston regrouped after that disastrous first quarter and were only outscored by four points, 46-42, the final three quarters.

Dexter edged Sikeston in the second half 24-23, pulling ahead by 28 at one point in the fourth.

Part of Dexter (11-6) coming down to Earth after such a great start could be attributed to the loss of point guard Natalie Sitze, who hurt her elbow and exited the game midway through the first half.

"We just shot the ball extremely well that first half," Allen said. "When your point guard goes down it just throws everything off. Your chemistry and everything else. I'm just glad the girls kept on battling."

Behind Mosby, Allen was Dexter's second-leading scorer with 14 points, including four threes of her own to help Dexter finish with 12 total on the night.

Maycie Martin pitched in eight points. Cheyenne Mosby and Hannah Thurmon scored seven points each.

For Sikeston, Tyeshia Mitchell scored a team-high 18 points while Larysa McClellon finished the night with 14 points. Kiera Steward was third on the team with nine points, hitting three 3-pointers.

Dexter shot 26 of 60 (43 percent) from the field compared to Sikeston's 18 of 59 (31 percent) effort.

Though the outcome isn't what she'd hoped, Wills is glad to see her team come closer to full strength.

It was the Bulldogs (6-11) first game in recent memory with Mitchell, Steward and Alexis Boyd all back in the lineup at the same time.

"I'm just proud that they never gave up or quit," Wills said. "This is a rivalry obviously, but our girls also had a willingness to just keep battling. We finally have everyone back together and we're doing what we need to be doing. I think that's the difference. We're finally starting to click. We've struggled from the very beginning of the season finding our rhythm."
