South Pemiscot student charged with making terroristic threat

STEELE, Mo. -- A student is accused of making a terroristic threat through social media.

Steele Police Chief Billy Joe Stanfield reported that on Monday his department was contacted by the South Pemiscot School officials in reference to a student posting on his Facebook page a possible threat toward the school.

Steele Police along with the Pemiscot County Sheriff's Department conducted an investigation and a 19-year-old male, who is a student at South Pemiscot High School, was subsequently arrested, Stanfield reported. The student, whose name was not released by authorities, was charged with making a terrorist threat in the first degree.

Captain John R. Trimm filed a report with the Pemiscot County Prosecuting Attorney for review of formal charges.

Stanfield thanked the South Pemiscot School faculty for their diligence in reporting the matter and their efforts to maintain a safe school environment.
