Charleston boys top C3D1 seedings, Risco edges SCC in C1D1 seeds

After beating four of the seven teams in their field during the regular season, the Charleston Bluejays were chosen as the Class 3, District 1 top seed.

Charleston has won their respective district the last six years running and will look to continue that stretch Feb. 18 at Malden High School.

The Bluejays will take on No. 8 seed Kelly at 3:15 p.m., in the quarterfinal round. Second-seeded Caruthersville will face No. 7 East Prairie at 10:15 a.m., No. 3 Kennett plays No. 6 Portageville at 12:45 p.m., and No. 4 Malden will take on fifth-seeded New Madrid County Central at 6 p.m.

The semifinal round is set for Feb. 21 at 6 and 7:30 p.m., and the championship game is scheduled for Feb. 23 at 7:30 p.m.

On the girls side, Malden will be the top seed on their home floor.

The Green Wave will play No. 8 Caruthersville in a quarterfinal Feb. 18 at 9 a.m. No. 2 Kennett faces seventh-seeded East Prairie at 11:30 a.m., No. 3 Portageville takes on No. 6 Kelly at 2 p.m. and fourth-seeded Charleston meets No. 5 NMCC at 4:30 p.m.

The girls semifinals will be Feb. 20 at 6 and 7:30 p.m., and the championship game will be Feb. 23 at 6 p.m.

Class 2, District 1

The Hayti Indians received the top seed on the boys side of the Class 2, District 1 tournament, which will be played at South Pemiscot High School.

Hayti will take on No. 8 Holcomb Feb. 18 at 3:30 p.m., in the first round. Other first round games include: No. 2 Bernie taking on No. 7 Senath-Hornersville at 5 p.m., third-seeded Puxico facing No. 6 Campbell at 12:30 p.m., and No. 4 Bloomfield meeting No. 5 South Pemiscot at 6:30 p.m.

Puxico topped the girls side as the top seed and received a first round bye in the six-team field. No. 2 Senath-Hornersville also received a bye.

Fourth-seeded Campbell and No. 5 South Pemiscot will face off Feb. 18 at 2 p.m., for a chance to meet Puxico in a semifinal Feb. 21 at 4 p.m.

No. 3 Hayti takes on No. 6 Bloomfield Feb. 18 at 11 a.m., where the winner will play Senath Feb. 21 at 7 p.m.

Class 1, District 1

The Risco Tigers claimed the top seed in the Class 1, District 1 boys tournament beating out second-seeded Scott County Central.

The tournament will be played at Gideon High School.

The Tigers will face No. 8 Southland in the first round Feb. 18 at 4 p.m. SCC will have No. 7 North Pemiscot in their first round game at 5:30 p.m. Third-seeded Clarkton will face sixth-seeded Delta C7 at 7 p.m., and No. 4 Gideon takes on fifth-seeded Cooter at 8:30 p.m.

The semifinal round is scheduled for Feb. 21 at 6 and 7:30 p.m., and the championship game will be Feb. 23 at 6:30 p.m.

The Scott County Central girls are the only team in Class 1, District 1 so there will be no district tournament. The Bravettes will automatically face Class 1, District 2's Delta, who is also alone in their district, on Feb. 28 in the sectional round.

NOTES: The Class 2, District 2 seedings will be released Friday.
