HAYTI, Mo. - A woman was killed when the vehicle she was riding in was smashed between two vehicles.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported the death of Sonya J. Cherry, 56, of Festus following an accident at 12:30 p.m. Thursday.
According to the Patrol's report, the accident occurred as a southbound car driven by Allison E. Venuto, 31, of Pevely and a southbound tractor-trailer rig driven by Clint M. Jeske, 35, of Lerna, Ill., were stopped in traffic. A southbound truck driven by Jeffery M. Bailey, 39, of Dyess, Ark., struck Venuto's vehicle in the rear pushing it into the rear of Jeske's vehicle.
Cherry was taken by air ambulance to The Med in Memphis, Tenn., where she was pronounced dead at 2:28 p.m. The death brings the Troop E fatality count to 15 this year.
Venuto was seriously injured. She was taken by air ambulance to the Elvis Presley Trauma Center in Memphis.
