SD ROUNDUP: Sikeston golf team sending two to sectionals, Dexter baseball tops NMCC for SEMO Conference 7th place

SIKESTON -- Sikeston golfers Luke Blanton and Luke Selvig finished in the top 15 of the Class 3, District 1 Tournament Tuesday at Fox Haven Country Club in Sikeston to advance to sectionals.

Blanton tied for ninth with a 12-over-par 83 while Luke Selvig finished 15th with a 16-over-par 87 on their par-71 home course.

Farmington's Nicholas Westrich topped the field for medalist honors with a 72. Park Hills Central's Brandon Wagner finished second with a 73.

Dexter's Spencer Warren finished tied for sixth with an 82.

The top 15 scorers advance to the sectional round.

Notre Dame won the district as a team with a combined score of 333. Farmington took second with a 338. The top two teams advance to the sectional round.

Sectionals will be Monday at Crown Pointe Golf Course in Farmington, Mo.

BASEBALL

South Pemiscot 3, Portageville 1

CARUTHERSVILLE, Mo. -- Nick Allred went 2 for 4 at the plate as the third-seeded Bulldogs fell to the second-seeded Bulldogs in the semifinals of the Bootheel Conference Tournament.

Bub Lance pitched 5 1/3 innings to take the loss for Portageville (15-6). He gave up three earned runs on four hits, struck out five and walked six.

Logan Damesworth went the distance on the mound to get the win for South Pemiscot (8-7). He allowed one earned run and recorded eight strikeouts and one walk.

The Bulldogs went on to upset top-seeded Caruthersville 2-1 to clinch the conference tournament championship.

Portageville is back in action on Friday when it hosts county rival New Madrid County Central.

Dexter 7, NMCC 5

DEXTER, Mo. -- The sixth-seeded Bearcats poured out three runs in the bottom of the sixth to snatch a win over No. 8 New Madrid County Central during the seventh-place game of the SEMO Conference Tournament Tuesday in Dexter, Mo.

Despite leading 5-4 after the top of the sixth and out-hitting Dexter 11-5, the Eagles (6-14) couldn't hold on.

Dexter's Clay Mullins pitched the final two innings for the win giving up one earned run on three hits and one walk while striking out two on 36 pitches.

Hunter Parrot lasted five innings after the start for the Bearcats. He gave up four earned runs on eight hits and one walk while striking out two on 86 pitches.

Jason Jarrell added a double for the Bearcats, who improved to 7-11 on the season.

Chase Silman started the game and went the first 4 1/3 innings on 83 pitches for the Eagles. He allowed four earned runs on three hits and three walks while striking out two.

Jacob Keene gave up three earned runs in the sixth.

Brian Sylvester led all hitters with a 4 for 4 performance at the dish. Palmer Campbell added three hits including a double. Gabe York also tripled for NMCC.

Kelly 2, Oran 1

BENTON, Mo. -- Mitchell Proctor produced a single that drove in the game-winning run on the final play of the game to allow the Hawks to fly away with the eight-inning conference victory over the state-ranked Eagles.

Nathan Vicenzi got the win on the mound for Kelly (8-8, 3-2 Scott-Mississippi Conference). He pitched 1/3 of an inning during which he gave up no hits, no runs and had no strikeouts and walked zero batters.

Layne Johnson was left on the mound when Proctor drove in the game-winning run to suffer the loss for Oran (10-3, 3-2). He lasted 1 1/3 inning and allowed one earned run on two hits, had two strikeouts and walked two batters.

Kelly is scheduled to visit Leopold on Friday while Oran is off until Saturday when the Eagles go to Chaffee.

EAST PRAIRIE, Mo. -- Chad Housman and Brian Shofner batted in two RBIs apiece as the Eagles clinched their 10th victory of the season in the slim win over the Mules.

Kasten Campbell was the winning pitcher for East Prairie (10-5). He threw four innings and gave up six unearned runs on six hits. He recorded three strikeouts and walked five batters.

Derez Tipler got on base all of his three times at bat, including two doubles, for the Eagles.

Blake Beacham pitched four innings to sustain the loss for Bernie (14-5). He allowed eight runs (three earned) on 10 hits, walked two batters and struck out one.

Nate Dillinger doubled twice and Jayce Burk recorded two RBIs to pace the Mules.

Bernie is back in action today when it hosts Scott City. East Prairie is scheduled to host Oak Ridge on Thursday.

ESSEX, Mo. -- Preston Tilley drove in two runs as the Rebels started strong and finished with a conference victory over the Hornets.

Nick Azure also pitched a complete game to get the win for Richland (3-8, 2-2 SCAA Conference). He allowed one earned run, struck out five and walked one.

Drew Fowler went the distance on the mound to take the loss for Advance (7-12, 1-3). He gave up four earned runs, struck out five and walked two.

Richland is slated to travel to Clarkton on Thursday.

Jordan Crone pitched four innings to sustain the loss for Scott County Central (2-8, 1-2 Scott-Mississippi Conference). He gave up 12 runs (six earned) on seven hits, struck out three and walked one.

SCC is scheduled to travel to Charleston to face the Blue Jays at 5 p.m. today.

SCOTT CITY, Mo. -- Brittan Jones touched base two of his four times at bat and drove in two runs as the Rams needed some extra frames but broke the tie in the bottom of the 11th inning to roam away with the conference victory over the Red Devils.

Dakota Talley hurled seven innings to grab the win for Scott City (15-5, 4-0 Scott-Mississippi Conference). He allowed no runs on three hits, walked three batters and had two strikeouts.

Landon Tenkhoff lasted 5 2/3 innings on the mound to be marked with the loss for Chaffee (13-6, 2-3). He gave up one unearned run on six hits and recorded three strikeouts and six walks.

The Red Devils will make the long haul north to Crystal City today while Scott City visits Bernie at 4 p.m. and then travels to Charleston immediately afterward.

NEW MADRID, Mo. -- The second-seeded Eagles pumped out 12 hits and exploded for eight runs in the fourth to take down No. 6 Cooter during the semifinals of the Class 1, District 1 Tournament Tuesday in New Madrid, Mo.

Lily Johnson was the winning pitcher going six innings allowing six runs (three earned) on seven hits and four walks while striking out six on 101 pitches.

Allison Gilmer led NMCC (11-8) with three hits while Johnson added two. Allyson Garner and Karlie Frazier each doubled.

Cooter's Sydney Chidester was the losing pitcher after walking 12 and allowing 12 hits. She was charged with five earned runs with two strikeouts on 162 pitches.

The Wildcats end their season with a 7-8 record.

NMCC will take on top-seeded Portageville today at 3 p.m. (weather permitting) in the championship game.

The Bulldogs (12-7) blasted fifth-seeded South Pemiscot 13-3 in the other semifinal.

ADVANCE, Mo. -- Jessie Long blasted a triple and drove in four runs as the top-seeded and undefeated Eagles easily flew into the district championship game with the four-inning shutout of the fourth-seeded Wildcats in a semifinal of the Class 1 District 4 Tournament.

Samantha Welter was the winning pitcher and also doubled for Oran (17-0). She threw a complete game and recorded six strikeouts and four walks.

Beth Lincoln went the distance in the circle to sustain the loss for Leopold. She allowed 12 earned runs, walked nine batters and struck out six. The Wildcats, who topped fifth-seeded Scott County Central 8-5 in Tuesday's only quarterfinal after Delta withdrew from the tournament, ended their season with a record of 9-3.

Oran will face a familiar foe in second-seeded Scott City for the district championship at 4 p.m. today (weather permitting). The Rams (13-3) blistered third-seeded host Advance 13-3 in five innings in Tuesday's other semifinal, finishing the Hornets' season at 12-13.

Dexter 8, Sikeston 1

DEXTER, Mo. -- The Dexter tennis team improved to 4-4 with their dominant win over Sikeston at home.

The Bearcats will finish out their regular season tomorrow at Arcadia Valley at 4 p.m.

The Bulldogs finish their regular season winless at 0-9 and look to the Class 1, District 1 Tournament scheduled for next week in Sikeston.
