NEW MADRID, Mo. — In the post season match between the sixth-seeded Portageville Bulldogs and the third-seeded East Prairie Eagles, Portageville saw their season coming to an end Saturday evening as they lost to East Prairie in overtime, 53-58. This was their quarterfinal match of the Class 3 District 1 tournament. New Madrid County Central is hosting the event.
East Prairie trailed Portageville 45-35 heading into the final quarter, but the Derez Tipler scored 12 of his game-high 24 points in the quarter to help send the game to overtime tied 53-53.
In the overtime, East Prairie’s Mason Bryars scored a basket to open the scoring and the Eagles’ defense dug in, holding Portageville scoreless in the extra frame.
Luke Marcum added 15 for East Prairie (22-4).
Daniel Carter had 14 to pace Portageville (19-7) while Bub Lance and Hunter Gates added 13 and 12 respectively.
East Prairie will take on No. 2 Malden on Tuesday in the semifinal round.

The top seeded Charleston Bluejays had no trouble advancing to the semifinals of the Class 3, District 1 tournament at New Madrid, Mo., on Saturday, throttling Kelly 93-32 Saturday.
Charleston led 22-13 after a quarter but blew the game open in the second quarter, taking a 55-19 lead at halftime.
Mardareyon Clark led Charleston (20-8) with 30 points while Demarcus Sharp and Blessin Kimble added 16 and 14 points respectively.
Devin Heuring led Kelly (8-17) with 13 points.

A blistering start helped the fifth-seeded Eagles pull off a mild upset over No. 4 Caruthersville during the first round of the Class 3, District 1 Tournament.
NMCC (7-17) outscored the Tigers 28-16 during the first quarter and led 45-27 at the half.
Caruthersville (9-10) cut it to four to start the fourth, but the Eagles were able to hang on for the win.
Johnnie Walker led NMCC with 26 points. Thailin Marsh added 14 and Donnie Brown chipped in 10.
Tallon Fonda scored a game-high 32 points for the Tigers while Charles Golliday added 22.
NMCC will take on top-seeded Charleston on Tuesday in the semifinals.

Second seeded Malden held Kennett to just six points over the last three quarters, blistering the Indians 52-20 to advance to a Class 3, District 1 semifinal game.
Kennett led 14-7 after one quarter but then the Green Wave turned up the defense and outscored the Indians 45-6 the rest of the way.
Dushawn Butler poured in 26 points to led Malden (21-6) while Broddric Annesser added 11.

Charleston (16-9) had three other players in double figures to help Watkins as Zycaisha Williams had 16 points and Faquazia Wilson and Ashanti Jones each adding 11 points apiece.
