ORAN, Mo. -- Betty Lou Metz, 87, of Oran, passed away peacefully on Monday, Feb. 19, 2018, at Life Care Center in Cape Girardeau, with family members by her side.

She was born on Oct. 28, 1930, in Cape Girardeau, at the old Saint Francis Hospital, to the late Emil and Norma Heisserer. She attended Jefferson Elementary School and graduated from Central High School in Cape Girardeau. Betty later married the love of her life, Clifford Metz, on Nov. 20, 1966, moving to Oran where she and Clifford lived for the next 52 years.

Betty was an Accredited Record Technician (ART), working for Saint Francis Hospital for 30 years and later Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston for 14 years, where she later retired. She was a member of Guardian Angel Catholic Church in Oran where she was also a member of the St. Anne's Sodality Ladies Organization. Betty was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary in Morley.

She is survived by three sisters, Judy Meinz (Walter Dean) and Patsy Timmerman, both of Cape Girardeau, and Dixie L. Pikey of Creve Coeur; a brother, Billy R. (Betty) Heisserer of Jackson. Betty deeply cared for and was always interested in her nieces, nephews and grandnieces and grandnephew.

Betty was a loving, gentle person who cared deeply for her family and friends. She thoroughly enjoyed family times together. She was also a wonderful cook, collecting many recipes and cook books over the years. Her favorite hobby was to organize her many photos into albums. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Friends may call after 3:30 p.m. Thursday at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Oran. Parish prayers will be at 4 p.m.

A funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Guardian Angel Church with the Rev. Randy Tochtrop officiating.

Burial will be at Guardian Angel Catholic Cemetery in Oran.
