BERTRAND, Mo. -- Herman Eugene Matney, 63, died Feb. 15, 2018, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

Born Feb. 19, 1954, in Evansville, Ind., son of the late Lige and Hazel Humphrey Matney, he moved to Columbia in 1965 and had lived in Mississippi County since 2017. He was a self-employed auto mechanic and had worked as a driver for Freightways Trucking Company until his retirement.

On Jan. 10, 2015, he married Barbara Heppe, who survives of the home.

Also surviving are four children, Stephanie (Michael) Mix of Barlow, Ky., Jamie (Sara) Matney of Wickliffe, Ky., Marrissa McLain of Morehouse and Elisabeth (Roy) Rudd of Lilbourn; two brothers, Jerry Matney of St. Louis and Juilian Matney of Kansas City; three sisters, Shirley Stewart, Sheila Cagle and Laura Cagle of Columbia; two half brothers, Richard Matney and Lige Jones; two half sisters, Lisa Matney and Bobby Pryor; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Michael Matney and Phillip Matney; four brothers, Ronnie Matney, Jimmy Matney, David Matney, Cecil Matney; and one sister, Diane Cagle.

Private services will be held at a later date under the direction of McMikle Funeral Home.
