Frances Abernathy

SIKESTON -- Frances Elizabeth Abernathy, 88, formerly of Canalou, died March 18, 2018, at Sikeston Convalescent Center in Sikeston.

Born May 29, 1929, in Greenville, Tenn., daughter of the late Elmer Harvey and Dora Mae Stanfield Bishop, she was a resident of this area most of her life and a member of Canalou Baptist Church.

On Dec. 11, 1945, at New Madrid, she married Robert Lavern Abernathy, and he preceded her in death on Nov. 3, 2001.

Survivors include one son, Harvey Abernathy of Morehouse; one daughter and son-in-law, Caroline and Ronald Bright of O'Fallon; one sister, Evelyn Clemons of St. James; and six grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Three brothers and one sister also preceded her in death.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until service time at 1 p.m. Friday at Blanchard Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Dewayne Coleman, pastor of Canalou Baptist Church, will officiate.

Burial will follow at Dogwood Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be: Jason Bright Sr., Jason Bright Jr., Wayne Rollins, John Abenathy, Tyler Everton and Jimmy Fowler.
