NEW HAMBURG, Mo. -- Erma Grojean, 96, died Oct. 27, 2016, at The Chateau Girardeau in Cape Girardeau.

Born July 28, 1920, in Kelso, daughter of the late John and Bertha (Bles) Dumey, she was a homemaker and a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church in New Hamburg, where she served on the Altar Society, Ladies Sodality and as leader of the Quilting Circle. She was a member of the University Extension Club and a longtime leader of the Eager Beavers 4-H Club in New Hamburg, teaching cooking, sewing and knitting.

On Aug. 14, 1942, in La Mesa, Calif., she married Charles K. Grojean Sr., who preceded her in death on Sept. 21, 2006.

She was also preceded in death by three brothers, James Dumey, Frederick Dumey and Marvin Dumey; and five sisters, Hermina Compas, Augusta Dohogne, Arvella Steimle, Juanita Kern and Mary Paylor; and one granddaughter, Sheila Elizabeth Eftink.

She is survived by five sons and four daughters-in-law, Charles K. and Mary Grojean Jr. of Kelso, Michael and Beverly Grojean of Manchester, Randall Grojean and David and Sheri Grojean of San Antonio and Chris and Sherri Grojean of New Hamburg; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Sheila and Carl Eftink of Sikeston, Lisa and Tim Church of Sedalia and Patricia McDonald of Cape Girardeau; one sister, Kathryn Todt of Sikeston; 23 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.

Visitation is after 4 p.m. Sunday at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in New Hamburg, where service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday with the Rev. Michael Casteel officiating.

Burial will follow in the St. Lawrence Cemetery with Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee in charge of arrangements.
