CHAFFEE, Mo. -- Carl Edward Christy, 96, died Sept. 24, 2017, at Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau. Born May 8, 1921, in Bell City, to the late James Oliver and Louvina Leazenby Christy, he was a retired heavy equipment operator/mechanic with Lonestar Industries in Cape Girardeau and a member of First Baptist Church in Chaffee. CHAFFEE, Mo. -- Carl Edward Christy, 96, died Sept. 24, 2017, at Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau.

Born May 8, 1921, in Bell City, to the late James Oliver and Louvina Leazenby Christy, he was a retired heavy equipment operator/mechanic with Lonestar Industries in Cape Girardeau and a member of First Baptist Church in Chaffee. He was in the United States Army stationed at Panama Canal during World War II.

On Jan. 26, 1942, he married Lois L. Slinkard, and she preceded him in death on April 15, 2004.

Survivors include: a son and daughter-in-law, Glenn and Denice Christy of San Antonio, Texas; two daughters and a son-in-law, Betty Bagbey of Lakeland, Fla., and Karen and Dean Sadler of Marietta, Ga.; and six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by four brothers and a sister.

Visitation is after 4 p.m. Friday at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee, where services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday with the Rev. Matt Butrum officiating.

Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery at Sikeston, with full military honors.
