SIKESTON -- Noel "Gene" Long, age 78, passed away on Oct. 14, 2017, at Delta South Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Sikeston. Born Aug. 15, 1939, in Waynesboro, Tenn., to the late Willie and Florence Haddock Long, he served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was a member of the American legion Post 595 in New Madrid, where he had served as an officer; he was the golf pro at the New Madrid Country Club for many years. He was of the Baptist faith...

SIKESTON -- Noel "Gene" Long, age 78, passed away on Oct. 14, 2017, at Delta South Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Sikeston.

Born Aug. 15, 1939, in Waynesboro, Tenn., to the late Willie and Florence Haddock Long, he served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was a member of the American legion Post 595 in New Madrid, where he had served as an officer; he was the golf pro at the New Madrid Country Club for many years. He was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include: one son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Kim Long of Dexter; one daughter and son-in-law, Denise and Jeff Hall of Sikeston; two brothers, David (Nancy) Long of Dexter and Tommy (Diane) Long of Malden; one sister, Brenda (Dale) Warren of Berlin Heights, Ohio; two grandchildren, Tiffani (Lance) Miller of Scott City and Matt Long of Dexter; seven great-grandchildren, Khloe, Averie, Kyan, Karsen, Kaysen, Addison and Abigail.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one grandson, Tyler Warf; two brothers, Edward Long and Stanley Long; five sisters, Nadine Jones, Shirley Edmonds, Betty Tabor, Linda Turner and Ann Cook.

Visitation will be on Monday, Oct. 16, 2017, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Nunnelee Funeral where funeral service will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2017, at 11 a.m. with Billy Davis, pastor of Bethel Missionary Baptist Church in Sikeston, officiating.

Burial will follow at the Evergreen Cemetery in New Madrid, with military honors.

Pallbearers will be: Roger Jones, Boe Green, Wendell Thompson, Phil Morrison, Dennis Pipkin and Barry Bennett.

Honorary Pallbearers will be: Robert Cook and Dale Warren.
