ORAN, Mo. -- Robert Taylor Gaines, 94, died Oct. 19, 2017, at his family home. Born Sept. 20, 1923, in Portageville, to the late Robert Bert and Della Taylor Gaines, he was a retired self-employed farmer. He was a member of Guardian Angel Parish and St. Joseph Sodality of Oran and a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 4311. He served in the United States Army during World War II...

ORAN, Mo. -- Robert Taylor Gaines, 94, died Oct. 19, 2017, at his family home.

Born Sept. 20, 1923, in Portageville, to the late Robert Bert and Della Taylor Gaines, he was a retired self-employed farmer. He was a member of Guardian Angel Parish and St. Joseph Sodality of Oran and a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 4311. He served in the United States Army during World War II.

On Feb. 21, 1950, he married Emma Eftink, and she survives of the home.

In addition to his wife, survivors include: two sons and daughters-in-law, John and Debbie Gaines and Andrew and Tammy Gaines of Oran; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Mary Ann and Ken Sallman of Ramsey, Minn., Martha J. Hamm of Chaffee, Donna and Alan Zeigler of Benton and Betty and Larry Essner of Benton; and 16 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by one son-in-law, Roger Hamm; a brother, Jessie Gaines; two sisters, Kathleen Almand and Marie Gaines; and two grandsons.

Visitation is after 3:30 p.m. Sunday at Guardian Angel Catholic School gym in Oran. Parish rosary will be at 4 p.m. followed by a Knights of Columbus prayer service.

Visitation will continue at 8 a.m. Monday at the school time for Mass at 10 a.m. at Guardian Angel Catholic Church with the Rev. Randy Tochtrop officiating.

Burial will be at Guardian Angel Catholic Cemetery in Oran.
