BLODGETT, Mo. -- Peggy Gates, age 65, died peacefully on Dec. 11, 2017, at her home in Blodgett with her husband by her side.
Born Sept. 21, 1952, in Sikeston, to the late Herschel and Geraldine 'Gerry' Evans Wagoner, she was of the Baptist belief.
She grew up in Oran, where she was a majorette and cheerleader.
Peggy had worked for Missouri Division of Employment Security, was then Human Resource Manager for Brown Shoe Company, then worked as District Manager for Manpower and she then was Human Resource Manager for Food Giant Corporation until her retirement. She was named Career Woman of the Year, had been a member of Sikeston Chamber of Commerce and a longtime member of SHRM.
On Aug. 25, 1984, in Blodgett, she married her soul mate, Steve Gates; he survives of the home.
Other survivors include three sons and two daughters-in-law, Lee and Alice Gates of Evansville, Ind., Aaron and Crystal Gilliland and Chris Gates all of Sikeston; one sister, Jackie Duncan of Sikeston; six grandchildren, Peyton Gilliland, Mya Gilliland, Jayden Gilliland, Taylor Gilliland, Halley Gilliland and Kamden Gates; one nephew, Jeff Limbaugh; and one niece, Toni Heeb.
Peggy enjoyed time with her family and friends. She enjoyed traveling, loved camping and camped every summer at Twin Bridges Campground.
There will be a visitation held Thursday, Dec. 14 from 5 p.m. until time of memorial services at 7 p.m. at Ponder Funeral Home. The Rev. Kenny Harp will officiate.
