ARNOLD, Mo. -- Lester H. Staples, 69, formerly of East Prairie, died Jan. 20, 2018, at his sister's home in Brentwood. Born Oct. 12, 1948, in Cape Girardeau, son of Ruth Hockersmith Staples of St. Louis and the late Sidney Lee Staples Sr., he was a 1966 graduate of East Prairie High School and had served in the United States Army during Vietnam War. ARNOLD, Mo. -- Lester H. Staples, 69, formerly of East Prairie, died Jan. 20, 2018, at his sister's home in Brentwood.

Born Oct. 12, 1948, in Cape Girardeau, son of Ruth Hockersmith Staples of St. Louis and the late Sidney Lee Staples Sr., he was a 1966 graduate of East Prairie High School and had served in the United States Army during Vietnam War. He held degrees in electronics engineering and had been employed as an electronics engineer and also as an instructor for ITT Tech in St. Louis.

In addition to his mother, survivors include: one brother and sister-in-law, Sidney Lee and Kandi Staples Jr. of East Prairie; two sisters, Darlene Staples Felts of Sikeston and Imogene "Jeannie" Staples of Brentwood; and two nephews, Landry Staples and Lance Staples of East Prairie.

Visitation is from 10 a.m. until service at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston. Martin Lucas of East Prairie will officiate.

Interment will follow in the Smith-Griggs Cemetery near Wyatt with full military honors provided by the United States Army and the Missouri Military Honors Program.
