SIKESTON -- Gilbert E. "Gene" Roslen, age 84, of rural Sikeston, went home to be with Jesus on Saturday, Feb. 3, 2018, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
He was born July 11, 1933, in Dustin, Okla., to the late Charley and Gertrude (Petty) Roslen.
Gene was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church, a veteran of the U.S. Army, stationed in Germany and had been a farmer before retiring. He was an accomplished guitar player and singer, although he never had musical training and could never read musical notation. An avid reader of old west history, he could tell the stories of the outlaws as if he had lived them himself.
On Oct. 6, 1956, he married Pauline (Sorter) Roslen; she preceded him in death Sept. 21, 2007.
He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Charley Roslen and Gabriel Newton Roslen; one grandson; and one great-grandson.
Survivors include: two sons and daughters-in-law, Gilbert and Marcia Roslen of Oran and Paul David and Gina Roslen of Sikeston; two daughters and sons-in-law, Pamela and Greg Wisdom and Wanda and Bill Cashmer all of Sikeston; seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and special friend, Hanna Chandlee, formerly of Jackson and now Corpus Christi, Texas.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, Feb. 6 from 11 a.m. until time of funeral services at 1 p.m. at Ponder Funeral Home.
Burial will follow in the New Morley Cemetery with full military honors.
Pallbearers will be: Garrett Roslen, Stanley Krapf, Dale Roslen, Kevin Roslen, Gavin Roslen and Greg Wisdom.
