Raising awareness

The Health Occupation SkillsUSA and HOSA team members visited various classrooms at Sikeston High School to do activities to increase Disability Awareness. Health Occupation students gave random high school students different assignments that showed how it is to have a disability like a communication disorder, autism, and other learning disabilities. In one activity students acted out an entire sentence and got their peers to understand what they were saying without speaking. The high school students involved said this really opened their eyes to see the struggles a student with disabilities has each day. The health occupation students have several other activities planned to help increase awareness around the high school in efforts to teach teenagers: "Everyone should be included."
