SIKESTON -- Miloslav "Joe" Skrabala, 86, died Jan. 27, 2017, at Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau. Born Oct. 22, 1930, in Kolicin Czech Republic, the son of the late Josef and Ludmila (Hejnik) Skrabala, Joe came to the United States July 8, 1952, and he first served in the U.S. Army from April 24, 1952, to April 23, 1957. He then served in the U.S. Air Force from Jan. 9, 1958, to May 25, 1962. He then worked as a service technician for Sears Company before retiring...

SIKESTON -- Miloslav "Joe" Skrabala, 86, died Jan. 27, 2017, at Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau.

Born Oct. 22, 1930, in Kolicin Czech Republic, the son of the late Josef and Ludmila (Hejnik) Skrabala, Joe came to the United States July 8, 1952, and he first served in the U.S. Army from April 24, 1952, to April 23, 1957. He then served in the U.S. Air Force from Jan. 9, 1958, to May 25, 1962. He then worked as a service technician for Sears Company before retiring.

On July 31, 1958, at Charleston, he married Wava Smith; she survives of the home in Sikeston.

Other survivors include: one son and daughter-in-law, Stanley and Sarah Dorris of East Prairie; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Laura and Larry Ivie of Diehlstadt, Nancy Jo and Gordon Jones of Sikeston and Jennifer Hudgens of Poplar Bluff; one nephew, Chuck Grubbs of East Prairie; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a host of relatives living in the Czech Republic.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Mary Jane Skrabala; and one sister, Maria Schejbalova.

Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 11 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Sikeston. Father Robert Taliaferro will officiate.
