Dorothy O'Neal
MORTONS GAP, Ky. - Dorothy Louise O'Neal, 95, formerly of Charleston, Mo., died Feb. 14, 2017, in Madisonville, Ky.
Born Jan. 14, 1922, in Hickman, Ky., to the late John William and Hester I. Davidson Evans, she worked with doctors Bondurant, Comer and Yarbrough in Cairo, Ill., for several years following her 1945 graduation from St. Mary's Hospital registered nurse program. In 1952, she graduated from Mercy College Department of Anesthesiology in Detroit, Mich., and moved to Charleston where she worked as an anesthesiologist at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston until 1975. She was a member of St. Henry Catholic Church and the Legion of Mary in Charleston. In 2004, she moved to Mortons Gap and attended the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Earlington, Ky. Her professional and civic involvements included membership in the American Association of Nurse Aesthesis, Missouri Organization of Nurse Aesthesis, and the Eagles Club in Sikeston.
On June 2, 1946, she married Joseph O'Neal, who preceded her on death on Dec. 22, 1991.
She is survived by one sister, Carolyn Faulk of Mortons Gap and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert Evans and Billy Evans; and three sisters, Doris Beauchamp, Rozell Flynn, and Evelyn House.
Visitation will be from 10-10:45 a.m. Thursday at St. Henry Catholic Church in Charleston, where the funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. The Rev. Patrick O'Neal, her nephew, will serve as celebrant.
Interment will follow in the Calvary Cemetery under the direction of McMikle Funeral Home.
