CHARLESTON, Mo. - William Henry Betts, 76, died Feb. 7, 2017, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston. Born April 17, 1940, in Charleston to the late Jim and Mattie Johnson Betts, he attended school in Charleston. He was employed with the Charleston R-1 School District as a custodian at the Charleston Middle School for 36 years and was the owner of Betts Laundry for 25 years...

CHARLESTON, Mo. - William Henry Betts, 76, died Feb. 7, 2017, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.

Born April 17, 1940, in Charleston to the late Jim and Mattie Johnson Betts, he attended school in Charleston. He was employed with the Charleston R-1 School District as a custodian at the Charleston Middle School for 36 years and was the owner of Betts Laundry for 25 years.

On Nov. 9, 1990, he married Mary Louise Parker, who survives of Charleston.

In addition to his wife, survivors include: two sons and daughters-in-law, William and Leesha McCauley of Stanley, Wis., and Lonnie and Christie Lawrence of Chicago, Il.; two daughters, Patricia Tyus of Indianapolis, Ind., and Denise Webster of Detroit, Mich.; one stepson, Kevin Parker of Sikeston; four brothers, Jimmy Betts of Charleston, Herman Betts of St. Louis and Johnny Betts and Clyde Betts of Kansas City, Mo., three sisters, Minnie Betts of St. Louis and Mamie McElroy and Carrie Milo of Kansas City, Mo.; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from noon until time of services at 1 p.m. Saturday at Mercy Seat Missionary Baptist Church in Charleston. Superintendent Steve Betts will officiate with Bishop Calvin Bird eulogizing.

Interment will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery in Charleston with the Williams Funeral Home of Charleston in charge of arrangements.
