SIKESTON - Sikeston residents can sit down with members of the police department and share some coffee and conversation.
The Sikeston Department Public Safety will take part in the "National Coffee with a Cop Day" on Friday.
According to DPS Director Drew Juden, the program began in Hawthorne, Calif., when the police agency attempted a new way to meet members of their community. The idea was that regular patrol officers take a moment out of their day to have a cup of coffee with community members and have a conversation, he said.
Sikeston DPS will offer "Coffee with a Cop" at three Sikeston Businesses on Friday. Officers will be at Houchin's Donut Shop, 903 S. Main St. and Bo's Bar-B-Q, 1609 E. Malone Ave., from 7-8 a.m. and Jay's Fried Chicken, 218 N. Main St., from 7:30-8:30 a.m.
"Many of our officers are excited about this program and we hope to have more events like this in the future," Juden said. "Please take time Friday morning at one of these local businesses and have a cup of coffee with an officer."
