Sikeston man in custody following assault

SIKESTON - A Sikeston man is in custody for a federal probation violation after allegedly assaulting a local resident.

At 8:30 a.m. Friday, officers with Sikeston DPS responded to the 800 block of Wayne Street in reference to an assault and robbery. A 25-year-old Sikeston man told officers he had gone to visit a friend at a residence and when he knocked on the door, it was answered by Dallas E. Johnson, 25.

"When the victim left the residence he was knocked to the ground by an unidentified man and assaulted by Johnson," said DPS Sgt. Jon Broom. "The victim also alleges Johnson took cash and cell phones from him while he lay on the ground."

Johnson was located a short time later by officers and arrested on an active federal arrest warrant for probation violation/weapons offense, Broom stated in a news release.
