Council makes appointments to boards, commissions

SIKESTON -- The Sikeston City Council made numerous appointments to municipal government boards in its meeting on Tuesday.

Council appointed the following individuals to Boards and Commissions:

Board of Adjustments: Jodi Glidewell, reappointed (full member); Larry "Wayne" Wheatley, appointed (alternate member)

Board of Appeals: Marty Presley

Board of Municipal Utilities: Tim Merideth, reappointed

LCRA: Dan Marshall, reappointed

Park Board: Jason Davis, reappointed; Mark Grimes, appointed; Tre Holley, appointed

Planning & Zoning: Fred "Chip" Thornton, reappointed; Gary Ozment, reappointed

Public Safety Advisory Board: David Terrell, reappointed; Harry Howard, appointed

Rental Ordinance Appeals Board: Chester Yarber, reappointed; Bart Grant, reappointed; Agnes Mason, appointed

TIF Commission: Missy Marshall, reappointed; John Leible, reappointed

Tourism Advisory Board: Susanne Chitwood, reappointed; Sarah Mitchell Garner, appointed

Traffic Committee: Ellen Brandom, reappointed

SEMO University, Sikeston Campus, Advisory Council: Mary Below, reappointed; Terry Williams, reappointed; Carrie Lape, reappointed; Toni Dee, reappointed; James Miller, reappointed; Ron Payne, appointed.

In other business, the council approved Bill No. 6067 to rezone property located at 226 North Kingshighway from transitional downtown (TZDT) to commercial district downtown (C-2 DT).

The council approved Bill No. 6068 which is a request to replat a part of two lots which are located at 2 Grove St.

The council approved Emergency Bill No. 6070 which authorizes the director of public works to execute permits for projects with Missouri Highways & Transportation Commission Right-of-Way.

Emergency Bill No. 6070 is deemed to be an important time-and-expense-saving measure because without its passage, the city is required to pass an ordnance each time is desires to request a permit to work in a right-of-way, according to Jay Lancaster, director of public works.

The council heard a first reading of Bill No. 6071 which will authorize the city to enter into a certain option to purchase real estate for a water well site.

Councilman Gerald Settles reported the city continues to prospect for a new municipal water source with recent drilling in the area of Ables Road.

The council was advised by city staff that PAWS Animal Shelter will have its open house later this month.
