SIKESTON -- A Sikeston man is recovering from injuries sustained by an apparent gunshot wound to his arm.

At 4:40 a.m. Wednesday, officers with the Sikeston Department of Public Safety responded to the emergency room at Missouri Delta Medical Center, 1008 N. Main St., in reference to a victim being treated following a first-degree assault, according to DPS reports. Upon their arrival, officers made contact with the male victim who had a small gunshot wound to his front and back bicep. Officers noted the blood on the victim's T-shirt, shorts and shoes appeared to be dried.

According to the victim, the incident occurred when he was walking in an alley behind the 300 block of West Gladys between School and Delmar Streets when two or three men shot at him. The victim told police a friend picked him up and drove him to the hospital.

However, when officers went to the location where the victim described the shooting happening, no shell casings or blood were found. The victim's clothes and photographs of the injury were taken as evidence. Further information was unavailable, and the incident remains under investigation.
