Willie Mae Hunt
SIKESTON — Willie Mae Hunt, age 83, died April 20, 2018, at the Life Care Center in Cape Girardeau.
She was born Oct. 18, 1934, in Clarksdale, Ark., to the late Howard and Clara (Tucker) Smith.
She worked as a nurse's aide at Shuffit's Nursing Home where she later retired. She was a member of the Pilgrim’s Rest Missionary Baptist Church.
Willie Mae, in her time with us, touched many lives. She was full of personality and never shied away from telling you how she felt. Her smile and laughter would light up the room. Along with raising eleven children of her own, she had a hand in raising many of her grandkids.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence "Tillie" Hunt; six brothers, Jonathan Smith, Howard Smith Jr., Billy Smith, James Smith, Lewis Smith and Frank Smith; and five sisters, Annie Lee Allen, Lillie Mae Lauderdale, Lottie B Crume, Evelina (Nig) Mitchell and Emma Bolton.
She is survived by five sons, two daughters-in-law and one special friend, Armster (Jessie) Robinson, Jackie Robinson, Willie (Betty) Robinson and Larry Robinson all of Sikeston and Terry (Rhonda) Robinson of Warren-Robbins, Ga.; six daughters and four sons-in-law, Linda (Ray) Williamson of Sikeston, Bobbie (Jimmy) Pearson of Goose Creek, S.C., Dorothy (B.J.) Blissett of Sikeston, Wanda Waldon of Sikeston, Levern (Calvin) Bell of Bellville, Ill., and Velma Louise Robinson of Huntsville, Ala.; one brother, Charles Smith of Chicago; five sisters, Bobbie Smith, Ernestine Smith and Alberta Lester of Chicago, Dorothy Kyles of Memphis, Tenn., and Albennie Singleton of St. Louis; 41 grandchildren; 79 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and relatives.
Visitation will be held Friday, April 27 at Green Memorial Church of God in Christ in Sikeston from 11 a.m. until time of service at noon with Elder Moses Grayson officiating.
Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Sikeston.
Ponder Funeral Home of Sikeston is in charge of arrangements.
