Richard Jones Sr.
NEW MADRID, Mo. — Richard James Jones Sr., 74, died May 4, 2018, at Pemiscot Memorial Hospital in Hayti.
Born March 30, 1944, in Lamar, Miss., son of the late Ethel Lou Campbell Shepherd and Jack Jones, he was a longtime resident of New Madrid. In addition to owning a dance hall on Russell Street in New Madrid, he spent a number of years running a lawn care business. He had also worked for several local businesses, including Western Auto, Riley A.C. Grain Co. and a lumber store that was once located in downtown New Madrid.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, James Edward Dye; and two sisters, Willie Mae Owens and Dorothy Grissom.
Survivors include: six daughters, Carolyn Craig and her husband Willie of Mason, Ohio, Dianne Jones and Colleen Jones of Toledo, Ohio, Rita Jones of New Madrid and Marva Drake and Yulonda Drake of Kennett; seven sons, Richard J. Jones Jr. and his wife Cheryl of Detroit, Mich., Kareem Jones of Toledo, Kenneth Buchanan and his wife Zianna and Michael Jordan Jones of Jacksonville, Fla., Paris Jones of New Madrid, Justin Jennings of Portageville and Ricky Lee of Chicago; one brother, Jack Jones Jr. of New Madrid; a stepsister, Zelma Shepherd; and 28 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Visitation is from 9 a.m. until service time at 11 a.m Saturday at the Delisle Funeral Home in Portageville.
Burial will follow in the Portageville Cemetery.
