Herman Johnson
BEKASI, Indonesia — Herman Ray Johnson, 72, formerly of New Madrid, Mo., died May 5, 2018.
Born Oct. 11, 1945, in Sikeston, son of the late Amos Johnson and Tempie Mason, he lived in New Madrid before moving to the Atlanta area in the mid-1960s. His work as a mechanical engineer later took him to North Carolina, Michigan, Florida, New York, New Jersey, China, Singapore, Croatia, Ivory Coast and Kazakhstan. He retired to Indonesia 12 years ago.
In 1965, he married Sarah Beatrice Jones of Lawrenceville, Ga. They divorced in 2001, and later that year, he married Purti Hendriyati who survives of the home in Indonesia.
Other survivors include: one son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Gretchen Dietze-Johnson of Franklin Park, N.J.; one daughter and son-in-law, Kelley and Ricardo Salas of Canton, Ga.; two sisters, Brenda Burt of Jonesboro, Ga., and Jane Davis of Columbia, Mo.; one grandchild and two great-stepgrandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Amos Johnson Jr. and Larry Johnson.
Burial was Monday in Indonesia.
