DEXTER, Mo. — In a special meeting of the Board of Aldermen Monday night, May 14, Trevor Pulley was named as Dexter’s new Chief of Police.
Pulley, who prior to his appointment on April 6 to acting chief, most recently carried the rank of Detective Captain with the Dexter Police Department.
That appointment followed the resignation of Larry Patterson who had served in the position for just days when he resigned. Patterson was serving in the interim post following the resignation of longtime chief, Sammy Stone in late March.
Pulley has nearly 30 years in law enforcement.
He has been with the local police department since 2002, heading up the department’s detective division
throughout his tenure in Dexter. He had served for nine years with the Cape Girardeau PD prior to coming to Dexter, first as a patrolman and later as detective corporal. He was a deputy sheriff with the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Office for three years from 1990 until 1993 before accepting the Cape Girardeau position.
Pulley graduated from Southeast Missouri State University in 1990 with a degree in criminal justice.
He serves in a number of voluntary positions within the county and in Bloomfield, where he and his wife, Starla and family reside.
He has been a member of the 911 Services Board since 2011, a member of the Bloomfield School Board since 2000, and has volunteered with the Missouri Special Olympics since 2016.
Pulley additionally is a member of the SEMO Cyber Crime Task Force and the Stoddard County Major Case Squad.
In 2003, Pulley was honored as Dexter’s Officer of the Year. In 2013, he was the recipient a Distinguished
Service Award for the Eastern District of Missouri, and in 2017, he was credited as an Outstanding Volunteer for Missouri Special Olympics.
Pulley assumed the duties of police chief upon the decision of the council. As chief, he will oversee the daily duties of 25 employees, including officers, dispatchers and office personnel, within the local police department.
