EAST PRAIRIE, Mo. — Betty Bonta, age 78, a resident of East Prairie, died Tuesday, May 22, 2018, at East Prairie Nursing Center. 

Born May 1, 1940, in Charleston, Mo., to the late John Glass and Irene (Shoemaker) Glass, she was employed for 25 years by Brown Shoe Company in Charleston. Betty then fulfilled her lifelong dream to become a stay-at-home Granny. She was an avid reader and gardener, and loved her roses.  She loved to drink coffee and to fish with her husband, Bruce. Betty was well known for cooking her special dumplings. She was the sunshine of her family’s life, and was the glue that held them together.

On July 8, 1958, she married Bruce Wayne Bonta; he preceded her in death on Dec. 17, 2017.

Survivors include: one daughter, Linda Bonta Thurmond of East Prairie; four grandchildren, Richard Nathaniel and Hunter Oliver Thurmond, Adrienne Thurmond-Adams and Logan Wayne Gum, all of East Prairie; four great-grandchildren, Richard Walker Thurmond, Lyla-Rose Adams, Hunt Felts Thurmond and Leigh Tillman Thurmond; one brother, Robert Glass of Charleston; and one sister-in-law, Cheryl Vancil Glass of Paducah, Ky.

Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, John Edward Glass.

Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. until time of graveside funeral services at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 25, 2018, at Dogwood Cemetery, with George White, officiating.
