Police investigating theft of guns from New Madrid store
NEW MADRID, Mo. - The theft of guns from a local gun shop is under investigation.
Some time during the early morning hours Sunday, a gun store, owned by Dustin Redden and located in the 300 block of Main Street, was burglarized. Entry was gained by forcing open the front door.
According to New Madrid Police Chief Joey Higgerson, the break-in was discovered Monday morning by a citizen. Higgerson said the citizen opened the storm door to the business and discovered the front door open.
Reported missing were two rifles and three hand guns. The estimated value of the guns was approximately $10,000
The police chief said some evidence was recovered at the scene. He added his department is working with other law enforcement agencies in the region and have developed several persons of interest.
“Obviously, Southeast Missouri is place where a lot of people own guns,” Higgerson said. “If someone is approached by someone wanting to sell a gun by illegitimate means or sees someone with gun who shouldn’t have a gun, our main hope is that they will come forward and notify police.”
