SIKESTON — A Sikeston man faces charges in the shooting of another man late Wednesday.

Alvin Jones, 66, is charged with first degree assault, unlawful use of a weapon and armed criminal action, according to Sgt. Jon Broom, public information officer for Sikeston Department of Public Safety.

Officers with Sikeston DPS responded at about 9 p.m. Wednesday to the 400 block of Lake Street in reference to a shooting.

“The victim knew the person who shot him,” Broom said.

Reportedly, the victim was dating a woman Jones had been romantically involved with.

Jones allegedly went to the victim’s house and shot him once in the abdomen area in front of his house, Broom said.

The victim was taken to Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston and later transported to a Cape Girardeau hospital. He is expected to make a recovery, Broom said.

Bond for Jones is set at $100,000 cash only, and he remained in jail as of Thursday.
