James "Jay" Clayton

SIKESTON — James A. "Jay" Clayton, age 79, died July 17, 2018, at his home in Sikeston.

Born Jan. 6, 1939, in Luxora, Ark., he is the son of the late Edgar Hubbard and Sarah Eula (Pack) Clayton. James was of the General Baptist faith and had worked for Clayton Farm Services before retiring.

He was married to Doris (Allen) Clayton; she preceded him in death on June 5, 2004.

He later married Dollie (Moring) Walker Clayton; she survives of the home.

Other survivors include: one son and daughter-in-law, James A. "Andy" and Rachel Clayton of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; two stepsons and their spouses, John and Joy Graham of Sikeston and Bob and Gale Graham of Piedmont; one stepdaughter, Sandra Beedle and Jeff McClellan of Aberdeen, Miss.; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Richard and Pam Clayton of Advance, David and Diane Clayton of Dana Point, Calif., Donald and Cathy Clayton of Sikeston and Gene and Bonnie Clayton of Blodgett; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Sharon Hood and Troy Ford of Bloomfield, Eva and Danny Carter of Orange City, Fla., and Ruth Ann and Charles Battenberg of Villa Ridge; three grandsons, Caleb Clayton, Joshua Clayton and Micah Clayton; and one granddaughter, Alexandra Clayton, all of Cedar Rapids.

Visitation will be held Sunday, July 22 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Ponder Funeral Home in Sikeston, where funeral services are scheduled for Monday, July 23, at 10 a.m. Tom Cantwell, Legacy Hospice Chaplain, will officiate.

Burial will follow in the Garden of Memories Cemetery.
