Vacant residence destroyed by early morning fire

SIKESTON — A fire early Wednesday morning destroyed a Sikeston residence.

Firefighters with the Sikeston Department of Public Safety responded to a fire call on Jaycee Street at approximately 4:21 a.m. Upon their arrival, firefighters saw the structure was over halfway involved.

Crews used hand lines to protect exposures while master stream operations were being set up. A short time later Ladder No. 1 utilized its master stream on the ladder to extinguish the majority of the fire. Personnel finished up and the fire was completely extinguished.

The residence was vacant at the time of the fire.
