Police investigating shooting death of Caruthersville woman

CARUTHERSVILLE, Mo. — Police are investigating the late Thursday shooting death of a Caruthersville woman.

About 11 p.m. Thursday, officers with the Caruthersville Police Department responded to a report of shots being fired, according to a news release from Police Chief Tony Jones. Shortly after officers’ arrival, Caruthersville Police received a report of a woman lying in the roadway near 7th Street and Walker Avenue.

Upon arrival, officers found the woman, 26-year-old Keniqua Jones of Caruthersville, lying in the road, the police chief said. Jones had sustained a gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers with the Caruthersville Police Department, Pemiscot County Sheriff’s Department and Missouri State Highway PatrolDivision of Drug and Crime Control are conducting an investigation into Jones’ death.
