Arkansas man dies in New Madrid County crash

PORTAGEVILLE, Mo. — An Arkansas man was killed after his vehicle overturned Thursday in New Madrid County.

According to Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at 3:28 p.m. on Highway 162 east of Portageville, as the eastbound freight liner operated by Richard T. Johnson, 38, of Lepanto, Ark., traveled off the left side of the road and overturned.

Johnson was transported to Pemiscot County Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 5:25 p.m. by Dr. Babtunde Olaeiran. Johnson’s death marked the 26th fatality for the Patrol’s Troop E this year.
