Traffic stop yields drugs and guns, results in two arrests
SIKESTON— A routine traffic stop led to the arrest of two people and the location of drugs and guns Saturday in Sikeston.
At 8:56 p.m. Saturday, officers with Sikeston Department of Public Safety conducted a vehicle stop near the intersection of West Malone and Fair Street for defective equipment, according to Lt. Austin Henley with Sikeston DPS.
During the vehicle stop, it was determined that the passenger, Demarcus D. Johnson, had a felony arrest warrant from Illinois State Police and was taken into custody.
The Sikeston DPS K-9 was deployed to walk around the vehicle, and the K-9 provided indication there were controlled substances inside the vehicle, Henley said. A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed digital scales, approximately 57 grams of marijuana packaged for distribution, three handguns and ammunition.
The driver of the vehicle, Jasmine Miles, was also taken into custody at that time.
Both Miles and Johnson were charged through Scott County Circuit Court with delivery of a controlled Substance, unlawful use of weapon and possession of drug paraphernalia. Their bonds are each $25,000 cash or surety.
