Brief vehicle pursuit in Sikeston results in arrest
SIKESTON — A man faces charges following a brief vehicle pursuit early Thursday in Sikeston.
At 8:30 a.m. Thursday a Sikeston DPS officer on patrol observed a vehicle traveling east on East Malone near East Street with improper registration, according to Sgt. Jon Broom, public information officer with Sikeston DPS. The officer attempted to stop the vehicle for the violation, and it failed to yield and continued to drive toward East Kathleen and East Gladys streets, Broom said.
“The vehicle stopped in a backyard in the 500 block of East Kathleen. The driver exited the vehicle and fled north while a passenger exited the vehicle with their hands up,” Broom said.
Officers searched the vehicle and found five white oval-shaped pills that were identified as hydrocodone and a small, clear baggie inside that contained a white crystal-like substance believed to be methamphetamine, Broom said.
The driver has been identified; however, his identity is being withheld pending formal charges.
