Abandoned residence destroyed in early morning fire

SIKESTON — Units with Sikeston Department of Public Safety’s Fire Division responded around 6:30 a.m. Monday to a report of a structure fire at an abandoned residence in the 300 block of Alabama Street in Sikeston, according to Lt. Austin Henley with Sikeston DPS. Upon arrival, officers observed heavy fire coming from the residence. The fire was extinguished after about two hours or so. There was no one in the residence at the time of the fire, and the cause of the fire is still under investigation, Henley said.
