Proposition 2 passes in Portageville
The citizens of Portageville took a stand at the polls Tuesday and passes the Proposition 2 tax sales as proposed by the City. This sales tax is to fund a full-time, certified school resource officer and public safety improvements.
It is designed to pay the School Resource Officer (SRO) first and the excess revenue will be used for public safety improvements for the city. Fire and Police equipment, tornado sirens, etc. This issue asked for 1/4 of a cent sales tax.
Out of 601 votes, there were 329 Yes, and 272 No votes.
“ I just want to thank the citizens for getting out to vote. We could not have done it without your support,” said Portageville Police Chief Ronnie Adams. “Officer Chris Cooley will be the SRO and will begin next Friday when school starts.”
The Burn Ban Proposition (Proposition1) failed, 387 No to 212 Yes.
For Circuit Court Judge Republican candidate Daniel Cornacchion, received 1064 votes in New Madrid County, and 422 votes in Pemiscot County. His opponent Ed Reeves, received 870 votes in New Madrid County and 1267 votes in Pemiscot County.
These two will face each other again in the November General election
For New Madrid County, all of the incumbents did not have any opponents and will assume their current seat in January 2019..

In the US Senate, Republican Josh Hawley received 1019 votes from 10 other contenders. Democrat Clair McCaskill received 787 votes from from six other contenders. Hawley and McCaskil will face off each other in November.
For US Representative, District 8, Republican Jason Smith received 1309, and Democrat Kathy Ellis, 844 votes.
For State Auditor, Saundra McDowell received 452 votes from among three candidates. Democrat Nicole Galloway received 836.
For State Representative, 149th District, Representative Don Rone received 1388, and Democrat Bill Burlison, 857.
The Right-to-Work (Missouri Proposition A) failed in New Madrid County. 1,478 voted No, and 1,349 voted Yes.
There were a total of 2,846 voters in Tuesday's election, with 1616 Republicans and 1220 Democrats voting.
