MSHSAA releases districts for fall sports
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — The new class and district assignments for fall sports have been announced by the Missouri State High School Activities Association.
Football
While locally most of the districts remain similar to 2017, there are some changes in 2018, most notably New Madrid County Central dropping from Class 3 to Class 2. The Eagles were slotted into Class 2, District 1, joining Caruthersville, Charleston, East Prairie, Jefferson (Festus), Kelly, Malden and St. Pius X.
In Class 4, District 1, Sikeston will see most of the same district opponents as 2017, with one change as West Plains enters the district, replacing Perryville, who drops to Class 3. Other teams in Class 4, District 1 are: Cape Central, DeSoto, Farmington, Festus, Hillsboro and North County.
Perryville is not the only addition to Class 3, District 1 as Doniphan, in their first year of varsity football since 1969, joins the district while Salem goes to District 5 and NMCC drops to Class 2. Other teams in Class 3, District 1 are Park Hills Central, Dexter, Fredericktown, Kennett, Potosi and Ste. Genevieve.
Brentwood will join Class 1, District 1 in 2018 to give it a full eight teams, joining Chaffee, Crystal City, Hayti, Portageville, Scott City, St. Vincent and Valle Catholic.
In Class 5, District 1, Fox and Seckman replace Rockwood Summit and Vianney, joining Jackson, Oakville and Poplar Bluff.
The district playoffs for football begin Oct. 26.
Volleyball
In volleyball, NMCC falls from Class 3 to Class 2, joining District 1. Charleston also moves from District 2 to District 1, joining Caruthersville, Malden, Portageville, Senath-Hornersville and Twin Rivers to make up the seven-team district.
In Class 2, District 2, Bloomfield will see largely the same district as last year with the only change being Saxony Lutheran replacing Charleston. Other teams in the district are: Clearwater, Greenville, Puxico, Scott City and Woodland.
In Class 4, Sikeston remains in District 1and has primarily the same district with the only change being Hillsboro replacing DeSoto. Other teams in the district are: Cape Central, Farmington, Jackson and Poplar Bluff.
Dexter remains in Class 3, District 1, and will also see a district similar to last year with the only change being Ste. Genevieve replacing NMCC. Other teams in the district are: Doniphan, Fredericktown, Kennett, Notre Dame and Perryville.
In Class 1, Oran and Richland remain in District 2 along with Bell City, Bernie and Campbell but Clarkton and Gideon join the district, replacing Advance.
Advance moves to District 3, joining Leopold, Marquand-Zion, Meadow Heights, Oak Ridge, South Iron and Zalma.
Also in Class 1, Hayti and South Pemiscot drop from Class 2 and join District 1, joining Cooter, Delta C-7, Holcomb, North Pemiscot and Southland.
Volleyball districts are scheduled to begin on Oct. 22.
