Two in custody for child molestation

NEW MADRID, Mo. - A second man is now in custody in connection with the molestation of a child less than 12 years old.

The New Madrid Police Department reported Wednesday evening the arrest of Gerald Davis of Lilbourn, Mo. Davis, who police had sought since charges were filed Tuesday, is charged with first degree sodomy/ attempted sodomy and second degree child molestation.

Also charged with first degree sodomy/ attempted sodomy and second degree child molestation in connection with the incident is J.C. Jones of New Madrid. Jones turned himself in Tuesday afternoon and currently is being held in the Pemiscot County Jail.

According to online court record, Jones was arraigned before Judge Joshua Underwood on Thursday.

Bond for both men is set at $75,000 each.

New Madrid Police Chief Joey Higgerson had made Davis’s arrest a priority for his department. “There is nothing more important when you have a sexual offender who has victimized a child than to get that person in jail immediately,” Higgerson said.

Officers with the New Madrid Police Department, New Madrid County Sheriff’s Department and the Missouri Highway Patrol assisted in Davis’s arrest in Lilbourn.

Higgerson reported the arrest was made without incident.
