Portageville football rolls past Grandview; big fourth lifts Caruthersville over Malden

HILLSBORO, Mo. — The Portageville Bulldogs earned their first win of the season Friday night, defeating Grandview 50-20.

The Bulldogs jumped on top quickly in the first quarter with a 47-yard touchdown pass from Connor Barham to Bub Lance. Barham then scored on a quarterback keeper to give Portageville a 13-0 lead and Jacob Carter added a 70-yard punt return as the Bulldogs led 20-0 after one quarter.

Lance caught a 70-yard touchdown pass from Barham midway through the second quarter as Portageville led 26-6 at halftime.

Barham added another rushing touchdown in the second half as Portageville (1-1) cruised to the 50-20 win.

Caruthersville 49, Malden 18

CARUTHERSVILLE, Mo. — The Caruthersville Tigers scored 30 fourth quarter points to put away district rival Malden 49-18 Friday night.

Caruthersville (2-0) led 19-12 heading into the fourth quarter but the Tigers had four scoring plays of over 40 yards to stun the Green Wave.

Marquis Leech completed a 41-yard touchdown pass to Jermaine Alexander to start the fourth quarter scoring while Nicholas Moore added scoring runs of 40 and 55 yards and Charles Tillman had scoring runs of 22 and 63 yards.

Caruthersville gained 422 yards on the ground and 538 overall while holding Malden to just 258 yards.
