‘Checkbook’ Summers

CHARLESTON, Mo. — Garland Wayne ‘Checkbook’ Summers, 64, died Sept. 5, 2018, at the Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.

Born Oct. 15, 1953, at New Madrid County, son of the late J.L. Summers and Mary Doris Crane Coulter, he had lived in Charleston most of his life where he owned and operated Checkbook’s sound system and owned and operated Checkbook’s BBQ. He was a member of Abundant Life in Christ Missionary Baptist Church.

On Oct. 5, 2002, he married Deborah Ann Morrison, who preceded him in death on Nov. 1, 2011.

Survivors include: one son, Richard Summers of Sikeston; three daughters and sons-in-law, Laurie and Nathan Van Tuyl of Bertrand and Faith and Mike Owens of East Prairie and Jaime and CoreyLoomis of Sikeston; two sisters, Martha Summers and Nancy Young of Sikeston; and 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Robert Dale Summers and Kenny Summers; and his stepmother, Delores Barnhill Summers.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston. Rodney Dunlap, will officiate.

Burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be: Richard Summers, Corey Loomis, Michael Owens, Cody Tinnin, Mason Owens, Bradley Campbell and Jaycee Loomis.
