Lady Bulldogs beats Charleston, 2-0
Senior Haylie Hammack had 20 kills to help pace the Portageville Lady Bulldogs in its 2-0 victory over the Charleston Lady Bluejays last Thursday night.
The Lady Bulldogs won in two sets, 25-18 and 25-19. “It was a good win. Charleston is getting more and more competitive each year. We did not play our best last night, but managed to pull out a victory,” said Coach Barry Branscum.
“We had a solid performance from everybody that night. That game was about as close to error free as we have had in a long time. Very proud of our effort that we have shown so far this year. We are 3-1 and we certainly feel like we can improve even more as the season progresses. I really enjoy this group because they work very hard every time they are in the gym, he added.
Alexa Priggel had 18 service aces and 10 set assists, teammate Zamia Taylor had 12 set assists. Priggel also had 26 receptions.
For the Lady Bluejays, Jermaneja Smith had six kills and 19 blocks. Ashanti Jones had nine digs and 42 receptions.
Last Tuesday night, Hammack had 20 kills to pace the Lady Bulldogs to a 2-0 victory over the Lady Hayti Indians.
Alexa Priggel had 18 service aces and 26 receptions. Teammate Dasmine Johnson had 31 team assists.
The Bulldogs won by two scores, 25-9 and 25-8.
Alexa Priggel had 14 service aces and 19 receptions with 21 team assists.
M. McKay had 5 kills and 7 service aces for Hayti.
Portageville is now 3-1. Their next home game is Tuesday, September 11 hosting South Pemiscot.
